Official Presentation of the delegates to the press On Thursday, September 23rd, 2004, the delegates were officialy presented to the press at the "Centro de Bellas Artes" in San Juan. The Miss Universe Critic page covered the event and chose as the most eye catching: Guaynabo, Loiza, Coamo, Barranquitas and Salinas. Here are some images of the event. Miss Salinas wins Costume Competition Miss Salinas, Cynthia Olavarria won the Costume Competition, on Saturday, October 2nd. The event was held in the Old San Juan. She won a cash award and the designer, Leonel Lirio (who designed Amelia Vega's Miss Universe National Costume) won the right to create the National Costume the next Miss PR will take to Thailand in 2005. Delegates are presented in swimsuits On Tuesday, October 5th, 2004, the delegates were presented in swimsuits at the Paradisus Hotel in Rio Grande. Fashion show in Rio Grande On Wednesday, October 6th, Spanish designer, Francis Montesinos, presented his spring-summer collection titled "Puerto Rico". The runway show took place in the Paradisus Hotel, official site of this year's pageant. This collection was presented in the Cibeles runway last month. The delegates served as models. Preliminary Competition On Thursday, October 7th, the semifinalists were elected. The names will not be announced until the night of the final competition on October 14th. These are our choices for the Top 13: -Barranquitas -Cidra -Coamo -Fajardo -Guanica -Guaynabo -Loiza -Manati -Naranjito -Ponce -Rio Piedras -San Juan -Salinas Special prizes were awarded, Rio Piedras (Best Figure), Salinas (Photogenic), Cabo Rojo (Critical Beauty) and Coamo (Best Smile). YPSO Gala in Guaynabo On Tuesday, October 12th, Miss Elegance was elected at a Gala held in the facilities of furniture store and pageant sponsor "YPSO", in Guaynabo. The winner of the award was Miss Coamo, Monika Candelaria. Among the guests were: Jennifer Hawkins (Miss Universe 2004), Alba Reyes (Miss PR 2004), Osmel Sousa (franchise director of Miss Venezuela and Miss Argentina) and Monica Spear (current Miss Venezuela). Big Favorite Miss Salinas wins Miss PR Universe crown On Thursday, October 14th, Cynthia Olavarria was crowned Miss Puerto Rico Universe 2005, and has already become a strong contender for the international title in the lists of those who follow pageantry closely. First runner up was Miss Coamo, Monica Candelaria, second runner up was Miss Guaynabo, Neysha Perez. The remaining finalists were: Lioza, Barranquitas and San Juan. The semifinalists were: Naranjito, Santurce, Ponce, Rio Piedras, Bayamon, Vega Alta and Caguas. The hosts were Deborah Carthy-Deu, Miss Universe 1985 and Eddie Miro. Guests included Denise Quinones, Victor Manuelle and Jennifer Hawkins.
