Pageant Events
Sunday, September 14, 2003. Miss PR Universe delegates participate in the Typical Costume Competition in a stage outside the Roberto Clemente Coliseum, in San Juan. Miss Caguas, Karen Marie Lopez, won First place with a costume of a native bird, the "pitirre". Second place was won by Miss Rio Piedras and Third place was won by Miss Cidra, both in flower related costumes. Friday, September 26, 2003. The preliminary competition took place in the Centro de Bellas Artes of the city of Caguas. There, the judges were able to score the delegates in swimsuits and evening gowns. Among the hosts was former Miss P.R. Universe, Brenda Liz Lopez and among the judges was former Miss P.R. World, Barbara Serrano. According to press articles and forum online opinions, some of the delegates that have an overall possibility to take the crown are: Villalba, Cidra, Caguas, Fajardo, Lares, Bayamon, Toa Baja, Rio Piedras, Carolina, Ciales, Salinas and Comerio. Interviews will take place Saturday, Sept. 27th. Thursday, October 2nd, 2003. The final crowning night took place at the Centro de Bellas Artes in San Juan. Among the hosts were actress, Mara Croatto, Miss Universe 2003, Amelia Vega and Miss Puerto Rico 2003, Carla Tricoli. The guest star was Mexican singer, Cristian Castro. The Top 12 was composed by: Barceloneta, Juncos, San Juan, Lares, Bayamon, Villalba, Trujillo Alto, Cidra, Naguabo, Toa Baja and Carolina (who was chosen by an Internet Poll sponsored by MoviStar). More that one pageant follower was surprised that Miss Caguas did not enter the Top 12. The Top Six was composed of: Cidra, San Juan, Fajardo, Toa Baja, Carolina and Villalba. In our eyes, Cidra, Fajardo and Villalba were the top contenders in the group (beautywise). San Juan and Fajardo were not specially appealing in the interview department. This left Carolina(Shanira Blanco) as 2nd Runner up, Villalba (Paulette Arias) as 1st Runner up and Miss Cidra (Alba Reyes) as the winner. Alba (21) stands 6 feet tall and is a Chemistry major at the University of Puerto Rico in Cayey. Miss Naguabo won Photogenic, Miss Carolina won Miss Doral, Toa Baja won Miss Earth, Bayamon won Best Skin, Comerio won Best Hair and Villalba won the Ford Model Award.
